All About the Animals Belonging to Class Asteroidea

All About the Animals Belonging to Class Asteroidea While the classification name, Asteroidea, may not be familiar, the organisms it contains probably are. Asteroidea includes the sea stars, commonly called starfish. With about 1,800 known species, sea stars are a variety of sizes, colors and are a wide-ranging marine invertebrate. Description Organisms in the Class Asteroidea have several arms (usually between 5 and 40) arranged around a central disk. Asteroideas Water Vascular System The central disk contains the madreporite, an opening that lets water into the asteroids water vascular system. Having a water vascular system means that sea stars have no blood, but bring water in through their madreporite and move it through a series of canals, where it is then used to propel their tube feet. Classification Kingdom: AnimaliaPhylum: EchinodermataClass: Asteroidea The Asteroidea are known as the true stars, and are in a separate class from the brittle stars, which have a more defined separation between their arms and their central disk. Habitat and Distribution Asteroidea can be found in oceans around the world, inhabiting a wide range of water depths, from the intertidal zone to the deep sea. Feeding Asteroids feed on other, usually sessile organisms such as barnacles and mussels. The crown-of-thorns starfish, however, is causing extensive damage by predation on coral reefs. The mouth of an asteroid is located on its underside. Many asteroids feed by expelling their stomach and digesting their prey outside their body. Reproduction Asteroids may reproduce sexually or asexually. There are male and female sea stars, but they are indistinguishable from one another. These animals reproduce sexually by releasing sperm or eggs into the water, which, once fertilized, become free-swimming larvae that later settle to the ocean bottom. Asteroids reproduce asexually by regeneration. It is possible for a sea star to not only regenerate an arm but also nearly its entire body if at least a portion of the sea stars central disc remains.

French Presentation essays

French Presentation essays For my presentation Ive decided to research language. I think that is interesting to know how a person acquires language and how they learn a second language. Most people say that children and people who learn a second language learn by imitating what adults or people around them say. But it has been suggested that language is a biologically programmed activity. In 1957 B.F. Skinner published a book where he argued that children and people who learn a second language learn how to speak appropriately because people who know the language correct their grammar. He believed that a parent shapes a childs speech by turning their babbling into words and to combine these words to short or long sentences. And for people who learn a second language, he believed that their primary teacher shapes their grammar and teaches them how to put word together to form sentences. In the 1960s Chomsky proposed that humans are born with a language acquisition device (LDA), a linguistic processor that is activated by verbal input. According to Chomsky, the LAD contains the knowledge of rules that are common to all languages. So LAD should allow any child who has enough vocabulary to put words together. Its the same for people who learn a second language. If a person who learns a second language has enough vocabulary he can put word together to make sentences. But a person who learns a second language can not use the LAD to learn a second language unless he learns the second language during the Sensitive Period. The sensitive period is the period when a childs brain is not developed yet and is specialized to learn language. This sensitive period occurs between birth and puberty. So learning a second language after puberty is very hard because the sensitive period is over. Also, if a child has a traumatic accident during the sensitive period, he can recover and learn language again because the right side of his brain can a...

Article Critique - Advancement and Equity for Women in the Business

Critique - Advancement and Equity for Women in the Business World - Article Example First, it discusses barriers that limit women from achieving better leadership positions in business entities. The traditional view of a woman distracts her from making the normal advancement to the top position. Traditional norms look down up on women for being good managers or chief executives. Secondly, it is from the article that men are perceived as default leaders while depicting women as typical leaders. This aspect deny capable women leaders the ability to serve in capacities which they fit. They take men to be managers and executive officers in different business corporations (Evans, 2011). Thirdly, the article brings out serious effects of gender disparities to companies that observe and practice the traditional norms. For instance, they deny women their rightful positions in business area. As a result, the companies lose great ideas and collaborative leadership from women. Additionally traditional beliefs deny the businesses better services from experienced women thus unde rutilizing their female top talents. Fourth, the article explains widely to prove that women in leadership can make tremendous changes, which brings valuable leadership skills that can help promote economic status of business firms. There are several reasons why women are sidelined from getting the top positions in business organizations. Gender stereotypic issues give advantages to men over women. For instance, men are biased against promoting women to top management positions within their companies. They really degrade women basing on gender factor failing to realize that women have the capability to make better collaborative decisions in companies. There exist other barriers, which deter women from attaining their full possession of top management positions. They include; inadequate role models for women, inadequate flexibility at their working places and inadequate strategies to develop women as leaders. Mercer provides

Cybersecurity Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 2

Cybersecurity - Coursework Example Such attacks would only be avoided by training staff on computer security and importance of keeping information confidential (Granger, 2002; Pietre-Cambacedes, 2011). Being an industrial spy, I would send emails to staff of Glassy Chemicals, a chemical company. These emails would be sent to plant software, such as Poisonlvy, used to attack 48 companies in China and Stuxnet targeted on Iran’s nuclear centrifuges as documented by Neef (2011). The message would entail psychologically tricking the recipient to install the software unknowingly, cited by Granger (2002) as a common way through which hackers accomplish their objectives. This software would tap trade secrets from the company and would be accessed by the cyber attacker. This could be avoided by installing firewalls and active antivirus software that would scan all attachments before opening (Knapp, 2009). In addition, the company should ensure that its security control limits software installation powers to system administrators

Effects of Media Globalization on Arab Culture Essay

Effects of Media Globalization on Arab Culture - Essay Example If the information technology and media dimensions are prohibited from entering into their closed territories, the countries lag behind and no country can afford to do that. Also all countries are anxious to take advantage of the benefits of globalisation, open their culture and attractions to tourism industry, so that they could be financially benefited. Environment is another matter that belongs to all the countries of the world and no country could afford to stay out of this issue. Arab countries are also keen on opening up the economy to venture into highly profitable imports and exports without which they will remain backward, while others are moving relentlessly forward. At the same time, most countries with closed cultures do not like their people to watch, learn and get influenced by other cultures. Some countries and cultures have an unfortunate view that only their culture is the best and all other cultures are unholy. Even for them it is important to take advantage of the technological improvements and discoveries from the 'unholy' cultures. Hence, the dilemma continues and even such countries cannot choose to lag behind by closing their doors to globalisation and information technology and rightly so. It is important to know all the diverse views about globalisation, media explosion and communication on the rather cosseted world of Arab culture. There are many views and most of them are against the globalisation. This does not mean that they do not want the benefits of globalisation. They only need the culture to be maintained as it had been done all these centuries. It is significant to find out how they could do it, and how effective they are in their goal. Also it is important to know how the global consumerism is catching up in the Islamic world of Arab countries. It is pertinent to peep into the women mentality and their freedom and if there had been any effect in that field at all. Finally it is necessary to know how Lebanon is fairing under globalisation and media explosion because Lebanon is in a unique position as it is caught in the political upheaval for a long time, a struggle for supremacy with Israel, a difficult problem of maintaining and working with Hezbollah, an d at the same time, trying to contain the terrorist and militant fractions of the society. LITERATURE REVIEW There is definitely broad diversity of opinions about the profit and loss of the effect of the internationalisation of non-tradition media under globalisation. In a way, Arab countries including Lebanon are trying to find political and economic solutions while trying to keep the social dimensions unchanged and this might become quite a challenging task eventually. Like any other country in the world, Arab countries too are living in a rapidly changing world and absolutely emotional attachment to the origins might become difficult and to some extent, a hindrance. There are opinions that globalisation in a way helped the Arab world to unite further. "I refer, above all, to the advanced communications technology which has functioned, on the one hand, to transfer the forces of globalization to the rest of the world and, on the other, to strengthen the bonds of language, culture, customs and tradition between Arab Americans and their original homelands" says Nasser in http://www.alhewar.c om/HGANasser.htm In the same speech Dr. Nasser goes on

On the other hand, there also legal issues involve with Schlumberger with the accusation of fracking price. According to the Bloomberg news, where the company were sued over claims Schlumberger and other oilfield industry which Halliburton and Baker Hughes collaborated to raise prices and crush oilfield service competitors in the booming U.S. market for hydraulic fracturing services. Therefore, with this kind of legal issue involve with the company will affected on the company’s good name and may worsen some relationship with certain company collaboration. Schlumberger may also contain another weakness that is not active in social media besides facebook and twitter. The company doesn’t use much of the social media to evolve their company’s name. Where Schlumberger consist of high probability making a bigger foray into other countries in the near future. Hence, they may offer the same products and services which also allow easier attract of new customer. Plus they will analyse and came up with new innovation technology to deal with Schlumberger. Furthermore, Schlumberger also concern about economic slowdown occur on it company. For example, the SchlumbergerSema revenue of 870 million USD for the quarter decreased 3 percent consecutively as a result of a 17 percent decrease in Cards revenue following lower demand in Europe. This economic slowdown can cause weak oil and gas demand and also will influence the pricing reduction in the company worldwide rig. In addition, it will also effect on the company’s production and exploration spending. In order to overcome economic slowdown, one of the method is by expand the company areas and attract new customer to sustain the company’s business which able to use various type of business commercialization strategies. Apart from that, the energy producers rising costs for raw materials such as steel had help Schlumberger contributed to 120 percent growth in production and exploration spending between year 2004 and 2007.Schlumberger also concern regarding the high energy prices have prompted governments worldwide to increase taxes and change investment terms to producer’s profits to gain a bigger share. Awareness of the Parents about the K to 12 Education in its general sense is a form of learning in which the knowledge, skills, and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching, training, or research. Celia A Slave essays

Celia A Slave essays Melton McLaurins book Celia, A Slave is the account of the trial, conviction, and execution of a female slave for the murder of her master in 1855. The author uses evidence compiled through studying documents from Callaway County, Missouri and the surrounding area during the middle of the Nineteenth Century. Although much of what we can determine about this event is merely speculation, we are able to guess the motives that contribute to the way in which many of the events unfold. Because of the details of the trial, many of the people involved probably faced several difficult decisions that led to the outcome of the trial. During the 1850s the United States was involved in a heated debate over the issue of slavery. Many of the residents of Missouri and nearby Kansas were fighting for or against the institution of slavery. The outcome of this trial was important because it could have a tremendous affect upon the way the legal system in Missouri viewed the rights of slaves, and the ways in which they would be forced to interpret the laws of the State in regard to how they where to apply to slaves. The first of the main characters we are introduced to is Celias master, Robert Newsom. Mr. Newsom was a wealthy landowner in Callaway County. In 1850, after the death of his wife, Robert Newsom purchased a fourteen year old slave girl from nearby Audrain County. The purpose, as far as McLaurin can tell for her purchase was as a replacement for Robert Newsoms wife. From the time that Newsom first acquires Celia, he begins to rape her on a regular basis. Although it was generally accepted as being morally wrong for a slave master to sexually abuse a slave, Robert Newsom seems to view her as his property, to do with as he pleased rather than as a human being. So the first of many ethical decisions is made, as Robert Newsom begins an unauthorized sexual relationship with his slave which lasts five years unti...

Equites, the Roman Knights

Equites, the Roman Knights Equites were Roman horsemen or knights. The name is derived from the Latin for the horse, equus. The equites came to be a social class and a single member of the equestrian class was called an eques. Originally, there were supposed to have been 300 equites during the time of Romulus. 100 were taken from each of the three tribes Ramnes, Tities, and Luceres. Each of these patrician hundreds was a century (centuria) and each century was named for its tribe. They were called celeres. Under Tullus Hostilius there were six centuries. By the time of Servius Tullius, there were 18 centuries, the last twelve drawn from the richest, but not necessarily patrician, men. The Equites and the Roman Army The equites were originally an important division of the Roman army, but over time, they lost their military prominence moving to the wings of the phalanx. They still voted first in the comitia and kept two horses and a groom each- more than any others in the army. When the Roman army started to receive pay, the equites received three times that of the ordinary troops. After Punic War II the equites lost their military position. Roman Politics An eques was bound to a certain number of campaigns, but no more than ten. Upon completion, they entered the first class. Later Equites had the right to sit on juries and came to occupy an important third place in Roman policies and politics, standing between the senatorial class and the people. Disgrace and Dismissal When an eques was deemed unworthy, he was told to sell his horse (vende equum). When no disgrace was involved, someone no longer fit would be told to lead his horse on. There was a waiting list to replace the dismissed eques.

Analysis of Escobar's thesis compare and contrast his theological Essay

Analysis of Escobar's thesis compare and contrast his theological contribution - Essay Example The liberation theology was the creation of the Catholic Christianity (Prahalad & Doz, 2007, p. 125). In addition, Escobar argues that the majority of the theologians apply two principles in the liberation mission. They include an examination of the social, economic and political aspects of the missionary enterprise itself, and, secondly, an understanding of the missionary enterprise within a global observation of human history (Escobar, 2003, p. 137). This study reveals that the Escobar’s perception on the Missiology that ignores serious consideration of both the social and political realities is misplaced. Escobar believes that Liberation Theology applies incorrect principles for creating a theology of mission, instead asserts that the basis for a proper theology of mission is the social sciences and Biblical Disclosure (Rodriguez, 2012, p. 111). Furthermore, Escobar dismisses the Liberation theology justification that people first perceive God in history and then go the scr ipture to reaffirm their belief. Escobar proposes that the Bible, particularly the Biblical Christology, is the fundamental basis for theology of mission. In summary, Escobar admits that Evangelical Missiology will be formed with and by the populace, yet its foundation is not in the people, but instead with the Evangelical commitments. Comparison of Escobar’s theology with Moltmann’s theology Samuel Escobar is a leading Latin American Theologian. Escobar was among the principal participants in the international Congress on World Evangelization. Escobar constructs a theology of mission on the social and political realities, which is a total contrast with Moltmann who bring a systematic theology based on the element of eschatology (Rodriguez, 2012, p. 128). Escobar asserts that the realties in theology should be constructed out of the biblical revelation and aspects of social sciences. Moltmann focuses on four lines of thought, which include the notion of an eschatologic al open future, the Christian theology of history, the Trinitarian sending God and the scope of salvation. Moltmann believes that the prospect of history should be kept open as the meadow of God’s puzzling and capricious works since a closed history robs hope for the future. This is because a closed history denies hope for the future (Rodriguez, 2012, p. 101). It is imperative to note that this claim is fundamental to Missiology since it attempts to elucidate God’s plans and distinctiveness. On the other hand, the Trinitarian Theology forms a fundamental aspect to Mission work. Moltmann asserts that, mission originates from the very being of God and not an activity of human beings. This aspect indicates that, there exists a link amid systematic theology of the Trinity and the mission work. Moreover, the Moltmann’s Systematic study of the nature of Christian prospect is critical because it preserves the veracity of the human familiarity of time and the certainty of God’s manifestation partaking in time while addressing the nature of God and of time. Numerous theologians have supported Moltmann’s theology by asserting that, it is fundamental to mission theologians since it is future directed and oriented (Prahalad & Doz, 2007, p. 128). This theology is significant since it has enhanced understanding of God’s mission in relation to a certain amount of tension of God’s rule both now and in the future. In conclusion, the
